William Gilbert Grace. Gloucestershire, London County & England 1865-1908. Two page handwritten folding letter from Grace, written on London County C.C., Crystal Palace, headed paper, and dated 19th November 1899. Grace is replying to a request from ‘Mr Rammell’ regarding fixtures, presumably for the 1900 season, saying ‘I am sorry we cannot play on June 16th or July 7th. I think we can easily fix up a date after meeting of secretaries on the 5th of next month. Will you let me have a few dates to choose from’. Very nicely signed ‘W.G. Grace’. Light horizontal folds, otherwise in very good condition.
Grace was invited in 1898 to help form the short-lived London County Cricket Club and was appointed as the club’s secretary, manager and captain, severing his connection with Gloucestershire C.C.C. during the 1899 season. The team played first-class matches from 1900 to 1904 and finally folded in 1908. ‘Mr [A.W.] Rammell is thought to have been the Secretary of The Stoics C.C.
