William Gunn, Nottinghamshire and England 1880-1904. Handwritten note on ‘Gunn & Moore’ headed memorandum sheet, undated, responding to a request from a lady collector for his signature. ‘I have much pleasure in responding to your wish to possess my autograph’. Beautifully signed ‘William Gunn’. Light folds, small adhesive mark to verso, otherwise in very good condition.
William ‘Billy’ Gunn was a very tall, graceful and patient batsman. A classical cover driver, he played in eleven matches for England and featured in twenty six century partnerships with Arthur Shrewsbury. One of the finest batsmen of the early Golden Age, Gunn also played two football internationals for England and in 1885 founded the famous bat making firm of Gunn & Moore.
