‘Cricket Match’. An early print from an original sketch on a pale blue wash background depicting a cricket match in progress, assumed to be a school match on an Oxford green, possibly Bullingdon Green, surrounded by trees, with spectators wearing top hats, and a schoolmaster wearing a mortar board and gown talking to a lady. In the foreground, a gentleman wearing check jacket and boater, seated on a horse, is in discussion with one of the schoolboys. Published by J. Ryman, High St., Oxford. Undated, possibly c.1850. The print measures approx. 16”x12-.5”, in modern mount, framed and glazed, overall 21”x18.25”. Light foxing to the print otherwise in good condition
James Ryman was a publisher and printer known to have been operating in Oxford from 1840 to 1865
