‘Surrey County Team, 1891. Taken at The Oval, Kennington, August 3rd’. Large original sepia photograph of the Surrey team seated and standing in rows wearing cricket attire, Surrey caps and assorted blazers. Printed title and players’ names to lower border. Players featured are Shuter (Captain), Lockwood, Henderson, Abel, Brockwell, Read, Lohmann, Streatfield [sic Streatfeild], Key, Wood and Sharpe, corresponding with the match v Nottinghamshire 3rd- 5th August 1891. The photograph by the London Stereoscopic Co. measures 12”x10.5”, apparently trimmed, and laid to large disbound album page, overall 18”x15”. To the verso is a large mono photograph of ‘H.R.H. The Late Duke of Clarence & Avondale’. Some soiling and staining to the album page, the photograph in very good condition.
Surrey (176) beat Nottinghamshire (86 & 44) by an innings and 46 runs, George Lohmann taking ten and Bill Lockwood eight wickets in the match.
