‘Catalogue of Cricket Books and Pictures’. Rev. Robert Stratton Holmes. A unique catalogue, handwritten in ink, of the extensive collection of books and pictures acquired by Holmes from the 1880s until his death in 1933. The catalogue comprises two small notebooks bound together in one volume in cloth boards, gilt title to spine. Laid down to the front cover is a title label handwritten in ink by George Neville Weston who was given the book by Holmes’ son when Weston bought some of the collection following Holmes’ death in 1933. Additionally, the inside front endpaper comprises a handwritten ‘Note’ by Weston describing the acquisition of the catalogue and that ‘this list is in the handwriting of Revd. R.S. Holmes’, the note signed by Weston and dated August 1933. Bookplate of A.E. Winder to inside front cover who bought this title from E.K. Brown in 1981 for the then large sum of £150. Padwick 22-1. Some age toning and tape repairs to pages, otherwise in good condition.
