George Benjamin Street, Sussex & England 1909-1923. Cricket ball presented to George Street in 1916. The ball has two silver plaques attached to it with the following inscriptions, ‘Sergeant Street. 2/6th Sussex Regiment. From Captain Plumer. Bangalore 1916’. to verso the inscription reads ‘In recognition of his feat of taking 7 wickets for 38 runs v Kolar on 25-11-16 and for many other fine bowling performances’. Good condition
George Street played 192 matches for Sussex 1909-1923 and represented England on one occasion during the M.C.C. tour of South Africa in 1922/23. He was sent out on the 1922/23 tour to South Africa as a replacement wicket-keeper for Walter Livsey who was injured, but played in only four first-class matches including his one Test appearance in the 3rd Test. He was killed in a motorcycle accident just prior to the 1924 cricket season
