George Benjamin Street, Sussex & England 1909-1923. A pair of hand-decorated ostrich eggs, one decorated with the M.C.C. emblem of St. George and the dragon and the other with the South African emblem of the Springbok. The eggs were presented to George Street on the M.C.C. tour of South Africa in 1922/23. Both eggs are in very good condition with the colours bright and both mounted on a portable wooden plinth. Each egg measures approximately 6” tall. A pair of rare, unusual and beautifully painted tour souvenirs. Previously sold by Knights Auctioneers in July 1997
George Street played 192 matches for Sussex 1909-1923 and represented England on one occasion during the M.C.C. tour of South Africa in 1922/23. He was sent out on the 1922/23 tour to South Africa as a replacement wicket-keeper for Walter Livsey who was injured, but played in only four first-class matches including his one Test appearance in the 3rd Test. He was killed in a motorcycle accident just prior to the 1924 cricket season
