‘London County Cricket Club v Cambridge University at the Crystal Palace June 1902’. Large original sepia photograph of the two teams seated and standing in rows wearing cricket attire and assorted blazers in front of the clubhouse at Crystal Palace for the match played 16th- 18th June 1902. London County players include W.G. Grace, Murdoch, Llewellyn, Lawton, Board, Poidevin, Hesketh-Prichard etc. For Cambridge University, Rockley Wilson (Yorkshire & England, 1 Test), Ebden (Sussex & Middlesex), Gilman (Middlesex), Day, Blaker (Kent), Dowson, Harper (Surrey) etc. The photograph, by J. Russell & Sons of Baker Street and Southsea, measures 11.5”x7.5”, laid to official photographer’s mount with handwritten title and players’ names to borders, overall 16.25”x11.5”. An excellent image in very good condition.
C.B. Llewellyn took nine wickets for 55 runs for London County in the first innings, followed by a further five in the second, to return match bowling figures of fourteen wickets for 109 runs. Despite this performance, London County (143 & 73) lost to Cambridge University (116 & 102/5) by five wickets.
